The author, Mariko Shinju, met with the Nobel Peace Prize-winning Deputy Environment Minister Kenya Wangari Maathai.
Professor Maathai was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2004 in recognition of the "Green Belt Movement" that contributed to nature conservation, poor social participation and democratization in Kenya through tree planting.
